Many studies have show that the arts education can be transformative for students, but it is usually the last program to have funding allocated to it when it comes to low income schools.
Downpat Recreation Center is a safe space for teens to express themselves while having all the supplies they likely wouldn't have on their own. All this is hidden behind a speakeasy-themed juice bar that anyone can enjoy. Only teens can access the recreation center in the back.
For this project, I was given the task to create a concept and execute it. The issue of young students in schools with low funding not having access to arts education has always been important to me.
DownPat is a creative recreation center for teens that live in school areas with low funding. It acts as a juice bar in the front with a secret "speakeasy" themed back that is a recreation center for teens. The recreation center's goal is to encourage creativity and self-expression.
The logo is styled using a fun typeface with a "W" that goes down into the "T" and the "O" being tilted to the side. The logo is supposed to look like fresh and trendy while also vintage 1920's design.
Themed around a speakeasy, the acts as a menu and ordering app for the juice bar part of the building. When the members pull down on the glasses at the top of the screen it shows the hidden membership bar code to access the recreation center for teens only.
